This Privacy Policy explains how RailTerrain, developed and supplied by RobotPlums ("RobotPlums", "we", "us" or "our"), handles information when you use the RailTerrain software application.

1. Information Collected by RobotPlums

RailTerrain does not contain advertising, analytics or telemetry systems and does not automatically send usage statistics, route information or personal information to RobotPlums.
RailTerrain does not require a RobotPlums user account to operate.

2. Information Stored Locally

RailTerrain stores certain application settings locally on your computer so that they can be restored between sessions.

These settings include:
- route name;
- Trainz KUID user and asset numbers;
- output-folder location;
- geographical coordinates of the most recently selected area; and
- terrain-smoothing setting.

RailTerrain may also locally cache terrain data and information identifying the geographical bounds and terrain source associated with that cached data.

The application's embedded web-map component may maintain local browser data required by Microsoft WebView2.
This information is stored on your computer and is not transmitted to RobotPlums.

3. OpenTopography API Keys

Certain RailTerrain operations may require an OpenTopography API key.
RailTerrain does not provide a shared OpenTopography API key. Users must obtain and supply their own key where required.
The OpenTopography API key entered into RailTerrain is used for the current application session and is not saved in RailTerrain's persistent settings.

When OpenTopography data is requested, the API key and the geographical bounds required for the request are transmitted directly to OpenTopography over HTTPS.
RailTerrain does not transmit your OpenTopography API key to RobotPlums.

4. Third-Party Data Services
 
To perform its functions, RailTerrain communicates directly with third-party geographical and mapping services.

Depending on the location selected and the data required, these may include services operated by:

- Natural Resources Wales / DataMapWales
- the Environment Agency
- the U.S. Geological Survey
- Geoscience Australia
- OpenTopography
- OpenStreetMap/Overpass services

RailTerrain sends geographical coordinates or bounds to these services where necessary to request terrain or railway-mapping information.

The interactive map used by RailTerrain also obtains map resources from third-party services.

When your computer communicates with an internet service, technical information such as your IP address may necessarily be received and processed by that service.
Third-party services process information according to their own privacy policies, terms and legal obligations.
RobotPlums does not control the operation or privacy practices of those independent services.

5. Generated Routes

RailTerrain creates route files on your computer in the output location selected by you.
Generated routes may contain route names, Trainz KUID information, generated terrain and attribution/provenance information.

RailTerrain does not upload generated routes to RobotPlums.
You are responsible for deciding whether and where to distribute routes that you create.

6. Data Sharing

RobotPlums does not collect personal information through RailTerrain.
RailTerrain does not provide RobotPlums with user analytics, advertising information or behavioural profiles.

Information necessarily transmitted directly to third-party data services is subject to the practices and terms of those services.

7. Data Retention and Removal

Application settings, cached terrain data and WebView2 browser data are stored locally on your computer.
Removing RailTerrain does not necessarily remove all locally stored application data automatically.
Users may remove locally stored RailTerrain data from their computer when it is no longer required.

8. Children

RailTerrain is a specialist route-building utility and is not designed specifically for children.
RailTerrain does not operate a system for collecting personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes to RailTerrain, applicable law, or the third-party services used by the application.
The current version should be made available through the official RailTerrain or RobotPlums support information.
