WHAT IS RAILTERRAIN?
RailTerrain is a Windows application that creates Trainz* terrain from real-world geography.
Simply choose an area on the map, and RailTerrain obtains the appropriate elevation data,
generates the terrain for Trainz*, and adds track guides in the form of painted terrain,
to help you start building your route.
It makes it easier than ever to create realistic routes based on real places.

Choose any real place in the world
using the built-in map.
Uses high-resolution data where
available, with global coverage using
OpenTopography.
Generates the terrain, and adds track
location guides using painted terrain.
Using the built-in map, select almost
anywhere in the world, pan, zoom,
and select the area you'd like to
create.
RailTerrain will then download the area that you selected from the
relevant server at the best available resolution, and create the route.
Open the route in Trainz*, complete
with accurate topology for that area
and a painted guide for the track, and
begin building your dream route!

RailTerrain uses real-world elevation data to create detailed terrain for Trainz*.

* RailTerrain has been coded specifically for the Trainz 2022 route format, and has not been tested on any other versions of Trainz. With the file format changing with most new versions of Trainz, in the current version of RailTerrain, there is no guarantee that exported terrain will work in any other version of Trainz besides Trainz 2022. If there is enough support for RailTerrain to warrant an update, I will look into exporting to Trainz 2019 and Trainz +.
